MBC small groups
Small Group DNA Each small group is different in nature, determined by the shared purpose and vision which come from the context of the small group, but all groups have the same DNA:
• A shared and stated purpose and vision, inspired by God’s Holy Spirit • A group meeting regularly to engage in activity around the vision and purpose • A Bible-centred basis of faith, teaching, prayer and encouragement • An outward focus, open to new people, praying for new believers and fruit • Willing to launch a new group when numbers grow to between approximately 12 and 20 people
Types of Small Group There are three types of small group, reflecting different purposes and allowing for each member of MBC to belong and be involved, as follows:
Geographic Missional Small Groups These groups have a shared sense of vision based upon location. Most of the members either live or work in and around that location. The DNA of these groups includes a heart for that geographical location and a desire to grow and develop relationships within that community.
Special Interest Missional Small Groups Special Interest Missional Small Groups have a shared sense of vision around a cause or an activity. The DNA of these groups includes a heart to reach and demonstrate the love of Christ to those with that special interest, or who are the special interest.
Relational Small Groups Whilst all of our groups are by definition relational, relational small groups share a common sense of purpose and vision around relationships. This may be in equipping people for the missional activities they are already involved in, and/or as a group having a missional focus in supporting other groups/activities or one another.
Prayer Partnerships A Prayer Partnership is a group of two, three or maybe four people who meet together once or twice a month. This provides a confidential opportunity to be vulnerable and accountable to other Christian friends. All members of small groups are encouraged to develop prayer partnerships, usually with one or two other members of the group. This is a place for deepening relationships, mutual accountability and significant prayer support.
